An Actual Hitler Story: Seriously, Not A Politician Like Hitler, Actual Hitler

December 7, 2009 / 11:53 pm • By Dr. Melissa Clouthier

Hitler’s body was burned by the KGB:

Adolf Hitler’s remains were burned and dumped into an East German river by Soviet agents 25 years after the end of World War II, Interfax reported, citing Vasily Khristoforov, the Federal Security Service’s chief archivist.

The remains of Hitler, his companion Eva Braun and the family of Nazi propaganda chief Joseph Goebbels were destroyed in April 1970 on the secret orders of then-KGB chief Yuri Andropov, the Russian news agency said today. Andropov went on to become Soviet leader from 1982 until his death in 1984.

The Soviets were concerned that graves of Third Reich leaders might one day attract Nazi sympathizers, Interfax said. The remains were burned and dumped into the Biederitz River, outside the eastern city of Magdeburg, according to the news service.

So, Hitler got torched. I’m glad he’s dust. The thought of his remains remaining is disturbing. Some souls shouldn’t exist.

I’m not completely comfortable with such behavior but I certainly understand their motives. Given the same situation I’d probably have to go with a similar or more permanent disposal. My ‘moral self’ wants to give human remains a proper burial, but for a practical matter, I think the Soviets did, maybe not the ‘right think’, but the best thing … given the circumstances.

After reading that, that is probably the most weasel-y thing I’ve ever written or said and I can’t leave it at that.

There is a reason nations employ people to do things that, as a nation, we cannot admit that we do. Generally they are referred to a “black ops”. Now I’m not equating the disposal of Hitler’s remains to kidnappings, assassinations, etc but they’re all things we’d rather not admit needs to happen.

    That said ..

Note to Russians: You are not supposed to leave any fucking paperwork.

After reading this once again, I realize I’ve almost written an entire blog-post.

    /drunken rant

Wow. So now we know. I thought they had burned the remains completely as soon as they were found. Why didn’t they? Also, it’s my understanding that there is now a playground for children on the ground where the bunker was, where Hitler and the others committed suicide. My Catholic faith, as I understand it, informs me that desecration of bodies is wrong……but it serves a higher purpose to ensure that there would be no tribute to him. I’m glad to know this information, but since it was so widely believed already that the remains were burned immediately, I wonder if this news will have an impact we don’t want. He’s better left in the history books.
