Isn’t interesting how they keep debating on the weekend when no one is paying attention.

The whole concept of parliamentary debate is a vestige of a time and place that are no longer in existence — of when legislatures were actually “deliberative bodies,” not the money-, influence- and demagoguery-leveraging clearinghouses they are now.

Or, at least, it’s a vestige of when legislatures and legislators could it least more plausibly maintain the fiction that they deserved to be taken seriously.

So, really, why do we pay attention any day of the week?

Anything on the floor of the House and Senate is “for show”. It’s sad that the rules change “on the fly” so they can “get enough votes”. Back-room deals and all that B-S is what REALLY needs to be put on the air-waves in the eye of the public.

    Dave,

Wasn’t that what President Obama promised–transparency and time to deliberate?
