Podcast: The State As God

They know that the state invading every aspect of life from constipation to thermostat setting to TV type elevates the state over the individual. If God isn’t making the rules for America, god, in the form of Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and Barack Obama, the Triune of I-Know-Better-Than-You-What-Is-Good-For-You will be making the rules. And boy, are they.
So, Americans can either buy the illusion–that the state will care for them. Or, Americans can recognize that no human power can adequately care for the mind, body, and spirit. And when the state does care for basic survival needs, it starves the mind and spirit needs as a result.

We as a people have rejected the one true God and created an emotional void. Emotional voids will be filled by something and in this case it is omnipotent government. Until we return to the one true God, the Christian God, the creator and sustainer (and destroyer) of the universe, we will be chained to gods like Barack Obama, Harry Reid, and Nancy Pelosi.

That’s what I’m afraid of.
And even an agnostic or atheist, free from the state, can struggle with his existential question and morality, himself, if he’s willing to be self-reliant in all things.
The problem is that many secular humanists don’t want to struggle alone in these questions, they want to drag along the rest of the populace in their theoretical philosophical meanderings as they use the State as a social experiment since there are no absolutes.
In short, they create a mess and often, a violent one.

History backs up your thesis. Even now the liberals in this country tend to elevate leaders to godhood. If we understand that a “god” can do no wrong, it is easy to explain the “Clinton” phenomenon where he was not held accountable for his moral misdeeds. He was a “god” to the majority and his actions were not wrong, we just did not understand. It also explains the tendency of the liberals to attack conservatives thinking that by discrediting the leader they have discredited the movement. NOT! Conservatives waited for the day when the “tipping point” would come concerning Bill Clinton but it never came. He remained a “god” to his followers to the end. Attacks against GW Bush were directed at showing his fallibility thus his disqualification to be a “god”. It continued to baffle the liberals that a fallible president could still be honored and loved by those on the right even though it was shown over and over again that he was not perfect. Even to this date the liberals do not allow criticism of their champions to stand, even if true. It has to be explained away even if the final appeal is that the omnipotent leader is so far above us that we can’t understand his or her actions (godhood).

Atheist/agnostic existentialism invariably leads to nihilism. And when they control things, they invariably drag the rest of us into the abyss with them.

Those Obama haloes and upthrust chin made the messiah just another in a long history of people playing God. I think it started with Lucifer when he decided he could compete with God, after that their was Eve, then Adam, then….
The state makes the worst of all gods because it lacks the ability to love. It is, by definition, the antithesis of the individual.

It seems to me putting all the “blame” on the players and not on the played (rulers and not on the governed) is backward. Power grab is normal business in the everyday world. Just as the abused girlfriend or wife chooses to put herself under the abuser, we as a people choose to place ourselves under the dominion of abusive rulers. If so the fault is with us for allowing ourselves to be dominated. However just as is the case with the abused wife or girlfriend there is a point of no return even for the governed. Remember the old civil rights song “Before I’ll be a slave I’ll be buried in my grave and go home to my Lord and be free” If we do not resist the power, we by default submit to the power. Since it is human nature to submit to some “higher power” it often becomes the temporal ruler.
All this does not intend to imply that the temporal ruler has no responsibility to govern wisely and with moderation. He is completely responsible to do so, however when he (or she) refuses to be moderate and just, the people have both a right and a responsibility to remove them from power.
