Sarah Palin V. Barack Obama: Round Whatever
September 23, 2009 / 10:49 am • By Dr. Melissa ClouthierAs President Obama pontificates before the UN talking about his four pillars, the first one being disarmament, also known as defanging the West so they’re helpless before an enemy that will never disarm, Sarah Palin talks about what is important to the American people and the economic world: It’s the economy, stupid.
Foreign policy often hinges on economic policy. The guns just back up the message.
Did Sarah Palin’s message work? No one can fully say. The press wasn’t allowed in to hear it. But here are a few of her words via the Wall Street Journal:
“We got into this mess because of government interference in the first place,” the former Republican U.S. vice presidential candidate said Wednesday at a conference sponsored by investment firm CLSA Asia-Pacific Markets. “We’re not interested in government fixes, we’re interested in freedom,” she added.
Is Barack Obama’s speech before the UN working? He is saying some interesting things, but the meta-message, weakness, will trump all words. No wonder the UN members like him, says the UK’s Nile Gardiner:
It is not hard to see why a standing ovation awaits the president at Turtle Bay. Obama’s popularity at the UN boils down essentially to his willingness to downplay American global power. He is the first American president who has made an art form out of apologizing for the United States, which he has done on numerous occasions on foreign soil, from Strasbourg to Cairo. The Obama mantra appears to be – ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do to atone for your country. This is a message that goes down very well in a world that is still seething with anti-Americanism.
It is natural that much of the UN will embrace an American president who declines to offer strong American leadership. A president who engages dictators like Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Hugo Chavez will naturally gain respect from the leaders of the more than 100 members of the United Nations who are currently designated as “partly free” or “not free” by respected watchdog Freedom House.
The UN is not a club of democracies – who still remain a minority within its membership – it is a vast melting pot of free societies, socialist regimes and outright tyrannies. Obama’s clear lack of interest in human rights issues is a big seller at the UN, where at least half its members have poor human rights records.
The United States has a study in contrasts–as does the world. There will be those who dismiss Sarah Palin’s quaint provincialism and extol Barack Obama’s egalitarian moral equivalence. Eventually, though, a world economy driven into the ground by soft-socialistic policies makes even the most ruthless tyrant hunger for the good old days when there was food and riches and wealth.
It’s a good day for evil world leaders if America goes down the toilet, but it’s a suicidal impulse. Americans, too, might want a softer place to land economically, they might desire big spending Eurpoean social programs, but that makes America weak and beholden to foreign nations. Suddenly, American foreign policy is dictated by dictators and those who hold the economic power.
In the end, Sarah Palin’s speech and philosophy will mean more for American security and sovereignty than President Obama’s empty words to a heedless world. They adore Obama but they disrespect the United States because we are buried in debt.
Foreign policy and economic policy are so wrapped together, one can’t be discussed without the other one. President Obama’s philosophy is making America weak both ways.
More on Obama’s policy objectives here:
Undermine our allies. Embolden our enemies. Diminish our country.
Those nine words define the Obama doctrine with respect to American security policy. All three elements were much in evidence in the president’s benighted decision last week to cancel the “third site” for intercontinental-range missile defenses in Eastern Europe. They will be on display as well during this week’s several conclaves with foreign leaders.
The cumulative effect is predictable: A world in which the United States has fewer friends, more enemies and fewer options for assuring its security.

Did it cross your mind (for one second) that the Anti-Americanism you refer to wasn’t as pronounced a decade ago?
I thought not…

well, as me sainted mother, God bless her soul, used to say: “Thank God you were born in America and not somewhere else.”
I guess now she would tell me I should be ashamed to be an American.
So, to fix things, i propose we bring our troops home from EVERYWHERE (save embarrassment and lots of $)! We recall our diplomats from EVERYWHERE and close every embassy and consulates. Dissolve the state department (save $).
stop all foreign aid (save lots and lots of $)
seal our borders (save even more $)
round up and repatriate EVERY SINGLE UNDOCUMENTED CITIZEN (think illegal immigrant or alien) (save even more $)
ELECT SARAH PALIN PRESIDENT and use all the saved $ to repay our government debts. lower taxes to stimulate the economy. pay people to get a job and SLOWLY reduce their payments so they can PROUDLY STAND ON THEIR OWN TWO FEET and stop leaning on others.
let every other country know that when they have an earthquake, flood or any other kind of natural disaster they can call on their friends other then the U.S.A. for assistance.
cancel every one of our treaties with EVERYONE. let someone else defend the world from mindless dictators or mindful despots.

no but i have lived in europe and traveled throughout europe and we were dispised in the 70’s and 80’s and 90’s up to BHO. mostly because the europeans resent our saving THEIR BUTTS TWICE or they would all be speaking german. they hate us for our success and always have and always will. the sooner we realize that people (individuals and nations) are jealous and resent help from others when they cant helpthemselves the better off we will be.
we can continue to be generous with our treasure and young lives in battle, or we can let the rest of the world try to help themselves.
we already know they cant do it without us. china is a perfect example. slave labor making products to be sold in the USA and the government kees the money

Speaking (as a European) there is no resentment at the US involvement in either WW. Indeed it changed (for the better) the history of the continent, I have to disagree with resentment of the US during the 70s 80s 90s – on a cultural scale and throughout the cold war Western Europe felt very aligned to the USA and not the USSR.
I’m not jealous of a nation – the entire principle of that is senseless. I think that the US does many things well and I feel the same about Europe. Nor am I nationalistic to the point where I feel either system is without flaw. The US has an important place in world events – of that there can be no doubt. I’d suggest it starts with sensible trade laws and environment policies and grows from there.

Nobody’s compelling you to listen (or read).
Why don’t YOU just get on in life?

Wow, typical Liberal. “I don’t like what she has to say so SHE has to shut up.”
Ya know, as was posted – YOU don’t have to listen to her – or even read anything about her. There’s that little X up in the right hand corner of your screen you can click. That would solve a lot of your problems, I’ll bet.

speaking as an american, it is not the people of europe that hate us. just as it is not the europeans who hate americans. it is the governments and politicians that hurt us all. the european governments and politicians resent their weaknesses that prevent them from becoming as successful as america. and the american government hates the european governments because they wont jump to our governments suggestions or orders or whatever you want to call it. i dont blame the european governments and im not sure i blame the american government.
as far as the people go – individually and collectively – in my experience, they are wonderful. warm, welcoming, giving, helpful, etc. and i HAVE lived there for over 40 years, from turkey to the UK, from north africa to germany.
so people – get over yourselves and except the realities of today. we cant change the past. all the mea cuplas wont change a single thing. the government of the UK thinks all americans are simple merchants. the government of spain thinks we are some kind of revionist conservatives that want europe under our thumb. the government of italy doesnt last long enough to make up its mind what to think of us. the government of turkey is – and always has been – PRO-turkey and i dont blame them for that but they are really pretty much anti everybody else. the governments of north africa – from morocco to egypt are pretty much all pretty much ruled by despotic self appointed kings (the best thugs of long ago that could enforce their wills on the local populace) or military backed coups that have installed more recent thugs to impose their wills on the local populace.
the government of belgium is pretty much happy to have their little country left alone. the government of holland is extremely socially liberal but otherwise pretty conservative but still ruled by a constitutional monarchy.
the government of germany will do anything to get rid of their reputation from pre WWII, a tough row to hoe and therefore will do anything to avoid being called racist or anti-anybody. but imho, the germans still think they are the super race. im just sayin’ what i have seen and experienced.
what i do KNOW about europe is that before long they are going to be overrun by muslims who will enforce shria’ (sp?) law on everyone, including non muslims. islam require this. and they will do so by force if not by force of numbers. and when they do, those europeans who are left, will be screaming for a place to run to or asking the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA to come save their butts once again, and then look down their collective noses at what ignorant and uncultured “these americans” are with their big cars and money and loud voices. unfortunately, i fear, that if the muslims continue to reproduce in the united states at the rate they are now, we will be so overrun that we will be unable to help you sophisticated europeans when you call. and then instead of speaking german as you have had the opportunity to do twice, you will be speaking arabic.
so thats MY world view for what it is worth, which ain’t much. i only know what i have experienced and i am sure others have different experiences, some good, some bad, some more detailed living for many years in a particular country, others from a very short vacation in many countries. you can counter this post or just read it. i dont much care one way or the other. i know i am not going to change any minds that are made up, and i doubt anyone is going to really change my mind at my late age (68) but i am still willing to consider anything unlike many of my friends, children and more especially after many years of difficult living and working hard, my college educated grandchildren who think i am some kind of conservative iconoclast. so there it is. like it. dont like it. doesnt matter.

In Hong Kong Gov. Palin gave the unofficial Republican response to the president’s rant at the U.N.
She said more in two paragraphs than BAMA did in one hour.
Way to go Sar Bear!

In fairness to Obama, I believe it is his intention to talk for an hour or more while saying absolutely nothing. That is something he has truly mastered.
