Forced Abortions: Majority Of American Women Feel Coerced To Abort
September 8, 2009 / 5:54 pm • By Dr. Melissa ClouthierMany women experience pressure, abuse, and coercion when faced with a surprise pregnancy. This is bearing out with research reported by LifeNews:
Elliot Institute director David Reardon, co-authored a Medical Science Monitor study of American and Russian women with the 64 percent figure.
His new report, Forced Abortion in America, documents cases of violence against women who refused to have an abortion.
It also highlights cases like the one in Maine, which saw a couple charged with abducting their pregnant daughter in an attempt to force her to have an abortion, and another in Georgia, where a woman forced her pregnant daughter to drink turpentine to cause an abortion.
Reardon says the cases are just part of an epidemic of coerced and forced abortions in the U.S.
Reardon said that cases of women being pressured, threatened, or subjected to violence if they refuse to abort are not unusual.
He pointed out that studies have shown that homicide is the leading killer of pregnant women in the U.S. and that women in abusive relationships are at risk for increased violence during pregnancy.
“In many of the cases documented for our ‘Forced Abortion in America’ report, police and witnesses reported that acts of violence and murder took place after the woman refused to abort or because the attacker didn’t want the pregnancy,” he said in a statement LifeNews.com received.
“Even if a woman isn’t physically threatened, she often faces intense pressure, abandonment, lack of support, or emotional blackmail if she doesn’t abort. While abortion is often described as a ‘choice,’ women who’ve been there tell a very different story,” he added.
It has been the rare woman in my practice who sought the abortion and feels no guilt years later. Most women were either pressured to abort or chose the abortion and feel guilt later and remorse later. It is the rare woman who truly “chose”. It is a rarer woman who has no regret over her choice.

God, that’s a stupid thing for you to endorse. What the hell are you thinking?
That’s an absolute turd of a study. Did you even read your own lame link?
The majority of the women questioned were RUSSIAN!!!!
There was a statistically insignificant sample of American women.
There are more than 800.000 abortions a year in this country and they include 217 women, all of them interviewed shortly after the procedure,
This is totally sh*t and you should fix this.
At least, Melissa, find some decent studies.
If you’re too lazy to do so, try going to wikipedia. You see that the real figure is around 8% of women saying that pressure is the primary reason, not the only one.

Hey fuster:
You seem real touchy and testy there buddy. What’s the matter? Did the study hit a raw nerve?
I’ve heard similar statistics from other studies that were only done in the U.S. and included zero Russian women. The statistics for women claiming coercion, pressure, and intimidation are similar in the U.S., around 60%. So when you include Russian women in the study, the rate goes up 4%, to 64%. That’s still a lot of coerced and abused American women.
The FBI has noted on more than one occasion that the most common cause of death in pregnant women is murder. Usually this is done because daddy dearest doesn’t want to be a father and the woman refuses to abort. He thinks he has the right to kill to get his own way on this.
So back to your touchiness, fuster! Do you have a guilty conscience here? Have you coerced a girlfriend into an abortion that she didn’t want. Did you throw a few punches to help convince her? Did you seriously think about killing her? Did she give in to make the harassment and violence stop? Did you drive her to the clinic to make sure she kept the appointment? If you answered no to all of these questions, then why are you so touchy?
Maybe you are on the staff of an abortion clinic. Maybe a coerced abortion is just as profitable for your clinic as a freely chosen one. Maybe that’s why you’re so touchy. If every woman REALLY had a choice, your clinic would lose business, and have a lot less money.

yah, CeeCee, that’s right. I’ve forced many women to have abortions, not only pregnant ones.
It’s not that the study was ridiculous or that the numbers cited are ridiculous, it’s just that I was hoping for rates of 173%, instead of the factual one of around 8%.
CeeCee, get real. I hate abortion. If you’ve ever attended any, you would understand why in a real way.
Put up a serious study to back your bs or blow away.

NEWSFLASH: Threats of “intense pressure, abandonment, lack of support, or emotional blackmail” are NOT coersion. You CHOOSE whether or not to yield.
If someone tries to coerce you, CALL THE POLICE. Problem solved!
