Focus People: It’s Health Care & Cap-n-Trade

July 12, 2009 / 3:31 pm • By Dr. Melissa Clouthier

The only issue before the American people right now is the state of the state. That is, how much more they will allow the state to intervene in their affairs. The issues: health care and taxation.

There is nothing else worth paying attention to this week. Certainly not the nonsense the Obama administration is cooking up about torture. Rick Moran is vehemently against the Bush Administration’s choice to use controversial methods to extricate information from terrorists but says this:

Prosecutions would no doubt please some on the left who want a pound of flesh from Bush administration officials. But is the administration really that keen on reigning in Holder and preventing him from looking at this “dark chapter in our history?”

Methinks the Obama administration doth protest too much. A distraction like this is just what the doctor ordered to take people’s minds off the fact that the stim bill isn’t working, that there is a growing call from Obama’s left flank for a second stimulus measure, that his cap and trade bill is in big trouble in the senate, and that it is far from certain that his his health care plan will come out the way he wants – with a public option that will be paid for without taxing the middle class.

Rallying his base to the cause of prosecuting Bush administration officials for torture will also take their minds off how he has betrayed them on a host of issues from gay rights to his agreement to indefinite detentions of terrorists.

So might this unleashing of Holder on Bush era torture crimes be nothing more than a distraction from the woeful economy that is resisting the president’s importunings to improve? Obama wouldn’t be the first president to use the tactic and he wouldn’t be the last if that is his game.

A good old fashioned investigation with strategic leaks and the spectacle of Bushies marching into the Justice Department to testify would serve as excellent bait for the media who no doubt would go overboard in their coverage of the hated Bush administration’s torture policies.

Bread and circuses worked for the Roman pro-consuls who used the spectacles to distract a populace constantly on the verge of starvation.

Why not Obama?

Oh yes, yes. A show trial would be great fun for the 10% of the crazy leftists who would relish every moment of seeing Dick Cheney squirm. The other 90% of Americans would be disgusted at more government nonsense in the face of the economic crises that Biden admitted was worse that the administration thought.

But really what the Holder threats are all about is a distraction from something Americans are finding more ominous than the economy: more debt in service of more government programs no matter how well-intentioned. Americans are nervous about the spending, even spending that they’ve been told will benefit them. (A lie, but whatever, people believe it, because it’s pleasing to believe it.)

Erick Erickson notes this well:

Don’t play the game.

Sonya Sotomayor will be confirmed. Ignore that ball as best you can.

Dick Cheney will need some help, but we don’t all need to focus on that ball.

The interrogators will not be prosecuted. It is a ruse. Do not be distracted.

Cap and Trade and Obamacare are the balls in play. Keep focusing on them.

We cannot afford to be distracted from these two policy initiatives. They are trying to distract us. We must target Congress on healthcare and cap and trade.

It is a telling point of the game’s existence that the Democrats have not revealed the terms of their healthcare legislation. They want us fully distracted by these other matters before they do and rush it through.

Focus people. The rest of these trivialities will suck up media time because it’s fun and it’s gossip fodder. They also play the game and know that the enormous tax increases involved in these two monster issues are boring and fear-inducing to people. The press, liberals almost entirely, want these policies to pass. The only way for that to happen is if people remain ignorant. They’ll do their part to make that happen.

Focus. The whole of the future of America rests on the decisions the next couple weeks. After this, President Obama will have spent his arsenal. Democrats are looking for reelection and need time and space between these votes because people are going to be furious when the reality of the taxes and reduced benefits hit their lives.

Obama wants to remake America into a state-run, workers paradise. He wants to redistribute wealth–that’s his notion of fairness. He will have to make this new state on the backs of those who contribute and produce. They have to give approval for this to happen.

The people must rise up now and stop them if they value capitalism and liberty, for the two go hand in hand.

I’ve said this many times before over the last few months of this Tax and Tax and Tax and Spend, Spend, Spend administration – the ONLY thing that will stop this is putting the FEAR of being FIRED into the Congress and Senators – and then FIRE them anyway.

MAKE this about the next election. Tell them (nicely but firmly) – “You will be FIRED if you vote yes for all this – I will see to it.” If enough people tell them that, they WILL get the message.

I agree completely with DaveR. We need to send an extreme correction to Congress. Vote out incumbents…..sorry but some corrections are painfull.

It is truly wondrous to watch the fog of mis-direction and coordination that this admin. puts out. I’d love to see how large an outfit they have to run all this.

Of course if the media didn’t have its thumb on the scales it might be more difficult.

Then too, I saw a snippet of some city treasurer in Michigan that got stung from in a e-mail scam (including putting city $$ in the thing). Let’s face it guys….we have a large number of people who are eager to get something for nothing. And Obama will always be there with $$.

BTW, has everyone heard the story that their next bailout target is small business? The most transparent thing about Obama is his co-opting strategies…really shameless.

Thanks, Art, for dumbing me down some more. I wasn’t sure if I was being stupid enough to fit in with you.

Let me know when the level of bs from this administration rises to the level of lying that causes thousands of our troops to die and many thousands more to be maimed.

Sotomayor will be confirmed. Investigations may or may not happen. Sarah Palin is the future.

Health Care and Cap-n-Tax are now. And they’re disastrous.

Is there a draft in here? Did someone leave the barnyard door open again?

I guess Freeing oppressed people whose dictators want every American dead and THREATENED us with just that is bad, but ruining the jobs and future lively hood of MILLIONS (And their children for generations to come) and LYING about it is OK?

well, at least there is some modestly good news (can’t over hype, but please let me dream)

Rasmussen has been steady @ -7 the last 3 days (after the -8)

So there’s no doubt that the CIA stuff and the Holder stuff are trying to improve his ratings and get the media to talk about something else (mainly how horrible Bush was).

Evidently the plan is to ram healthcare thru by August (or keep people in DC). I’m sure that Obama/Pelosi/Reid will do whatever it takes (bribes, threats, lies, etc.)…anything to get their dream of 60 years passed.

Wanting us dead isn’t exactly unique or punishable by death.
If you agree with killing everybody who wants us dead, why the hell wouldn’t you think that going into Iran would have been a boatload better than an Iraq that wasn’t doing or going to do a damned thing to us?

And the Taliban in Afganistan weren’t going to do anything to us either, because they are a backward country and WAY over there. How did that work out?

Tell 3,000 families that’s a good way to do things where one government agency can’t tell another one when something fishy is going on. And now those same families and their kids and kids kids are going to have to pay taxes to all the democrat special interest groups that helped get TEO elected.

Dems have been in charge of Congress since 2006. Bush is NOT in office, and hasn’t been for half a year. Can you EVER get over it? Do you really REALLY hate Bush that much? I’d seek help.

Dear Davie, don’t try confusing the two wars. If the asshats hadn’t gone charging into Iraq, they would have been able to win the war that we needed to win instead of starving it of resources and allowing the Taliban to regroup.
Sorry if i seem bitter of this stuff and for the Bushies allowing the economy to go to hell, but all I started out saying was that it’s ludicrous for you folks to bitch about this administration’s dishonesty.
Philosophies aside, Obama is nowhere near the depth of dishonesty that we’ve had to experience.

Fuster, why don’t you grow a pair. How many time do we have to tell you – we DIDN’T like it when Bush did it either! Can’t you remember that from day to day? We didn’t like it when the Republicans in Congress OVER SPENT either! Why do you think they didn’t get re-elected.

So get off your @!$%$%& high horse and look around and realize that NOTHING Bush did is anywhere NEAR to DESTROYING this country as this current administration is.

You should really look in the mirror when you start calling people names.
