#FollowFriday Is…..

People on Twitter have a tradition of naming their favorite people every Friday and suggesting those people to the people who follow them. Some people like the suggestions. Some people hate them.

I like follow Friday when other tweeters give me a reason to follow someone. A stream of names followed by #ff doesn’t tell me much though and it can get annoying. It also bugs me that these gain follower sites use the follow Friday concept as a way to amass followers without regard to value. Much like a chain letter I tend to take what I like and leave the rest.

I don’t like it when folks just make a huge list and tweet that. So much nicer when people list one or 2 at a time, with a reason – like “@soandso is funny!”

Follow Friday was a great idea when it first started. It was a great way to find new people to follow.

Since then we have so many other ways to find followers (mrtweet.net) and now since so many more people are on Twitter and are participating in follow friday, it has become nothing but spam. A nearly unmanageable mess of tweets that you have to sift through to find something of value.

If you want to find more people to follow or you’d like to know who is following whom, just look at their Twitter page.
