The inalienable right to the pursuit of happiness does not mean we or anyone else has "the right to be happy." Jefferson meant that every person is born with the right to engage in any non-criminal line of work or activity we believe will make us happy. By the same token, it means the government has no business interfering with that right. There is nothing complicated about this right. That is all it means. Nothing more, nothing less. Right on Melissa. The inalienable right to the pursuit of happiness does not mean we or anyone else has “the right to be happy.”
