Mat, some of my opinions are the same as that of people on the right on some issues. I have no problem with a solid opinion some anyone without regard to political orientation.
I will and do scoff at crap coming from the left.
I honestly did not see any FACTS coming from you here. You gave me opinions about what the left wants to do. That isn't saying anything about the methods of paying for medical care or whether there's need for changing them. It's a simple statement of distrust, nothing more.

fuster,

I've given you the facts. Take them as you will. You won't accept anything I say because I'm a conservative. That makes you pretty childish and certainly narrow-minded coming from an ideology that's so big on being "open-minded."

You're really no different than a number of leftists that have blogged here and I fail to see why there should be continued discussion with someone who's only argument seems to be "Can't hear you, Can't see you, nyah nyah!" Therefore, I've decided that holding a discussion with you is utterly pointless. We'll see what happens with this in the future, and I'm betting I'll be vindicated. However, by all means, hold on dear to your leftist ideology. I'm sure it'll be cold comfort when we're all living just above the poverty line.

"Mat, I doubt that we’ll be able to judge who’s right from experience as I doubt that a real “left-wing agenda” reform will be enacted.
So we’ll have to keep griping and grumping."

Hey, you're the one demanding proof from me and I gave it. And now, like your postings on the "Sen." Boxer section, you're backpedalling. It's not griping and grumping; it's factual. And you know, as well as I, that we do not have the money to pay for this stuff. Medicare and Medicaid work to some extent because the people who cannot pay are backed by the people who are able to (why do you think hospital bills are so astronomical?). You go to the doctor and you're paying not only for yourself, but for someone else who is unable to. And the Left will compound the problem by forcing everyone, whether they go to the doctor or not, to pay for everyone who cannot do so. Yeah, I can see how well that will turn out, especially when government runs things so well. Long term vs. short term...

Spoken like a true troll...

"Mat, if you feel that I’m mocking you unfairly, you could have avoided it by throwing some more relevant material into the post you put up as a response to mine."

I never said it was unfair. Life's unfair, so people need to get used to it. That's one reason why I'm not a big fan of egalitarianism. It's pretty silly. As for relevance, what I said was entirely relevant, but as several posters already stated, you missed it entirely in your haste to push your leftist agenda. It's not my fault that you're clueless.

"Instead of discussing the problems involved in health care, you rant about the rapacious desires of the left to use health care provision as a form of social control."

I did discuss the problems, but I also put some generalized statements because they were, well, relevant. Of course health care is a form of social control. What puzzles me is how you cannot see it. You are telling people that they cannot make choices of their own and that government will do it for them. How clear can I make that? That is societal control.

"Perhaps you don’t understand the situation. Perhaps you do. Either way, there’s a shipload more to it than a simple cry of “bad lefties want control”."

Actually, I understand it all too well, hence my above comments. And yes, at the root of it is control. Always has been, always will be.

"There is a massive amount of societal resources in health care, both in cash and people, and government has been neck-deep in it for at least forty years."

Yeah, no kidding and how has it helped us? Not a bit. In fact, we can barely pay for it as it is now. So what are we going to do? We're going to expand it exponentially. Maybe you've forgotten where money comes from, but how exactly are we supposed to pay for something that will be more expensive than what we have now, and with no money? We are in massive debt right now and it's not getting any better. That means we can raise the money two ways: higher taxes (which means more money and therefore more control goes to the government) or printing it, which will cause massive inflation and will devalue the dollar.

BTW, this is what I meant by short-term vs. long-term thinking. Like I said, we'll see who's right in a few years. Whether it's fair or not is irrelevant.

fuster,

Mock me all you want, but it's clear who's the long term thinker and who's not looking five minutes ahead of time. Talk to me a few years down the road, ok? Thanks...

Mat, your so right. Once they get your tinfoil hat, you're doomed. Don't let them put any fillings in your teeth, either. The little thought transmitters will complete the work that fluoridated water started.
If you ever get serious, call back.

"Now tell me why our government control just absolutely, positively has to be just like the British model, rather than resembling the Bulgarian, Chinese or Swedish. Or maybe just turning out to be as uniquely American as all our other stuff is."

I don't know fuster, perhaps it's the left's orgasmic desire to be just like the Europeans in every way? Because, you know, they're just oh so much more sophisticated than us backwoods rubes...

Whether or not Britain or Sweden has the resources that we have is irrelevant. What the Obama administration specifically and what leftists in general want to do is to create a health care system that is modeled heavily if not entirely on the European model. Of course, that's not the only European thing they want. They also love the idea of us having no military, no guns and a EU style technocracy for a government. The sooner you get the people out of having a say, the easier it is to implement control. And the scary thing about all of this is that the left could actually pull this off.

In the end, the health care issue is another power grab by the state to control our lives. If everyone's sucking off the government teat, then the latter has the ability to control. End of story. It's all about power, and the left wants the whole shebang.
