It’s not so much about money as about *how* the money was made. If you make lots of money in entertainment, or a trial lawyer, that’s fine with Obama and his friends. Also fine if you’re one of the increasing number of university presidents with salary & perks in the $1MM plus range. What they can’t stand, specifically, is people who make serious money in business. This is because business represents a rival hierarchy of status & power and is places less value on academic credentials than they think it should

Melissa, achievement generally (though not always) is consistent with wealth, so that’s hardly surprising. You’re dead on target though.

What Obama (and the Democrats in general) is doing is trying to isolate this group and then target it ad nauseum. Unfortunately, he’s got a lot of support from the unwashed masses.

BTW, what he’s doing is hardly new. The Marxists are well practiced in targeting the intellectuals and then eliminating them. Obama’s just taking a slightly different approach. Instead of guns, he’s going to go the legal route and hound them until they submit. Hence, the AIG episode with the names of the individuals taking bonuses. Whether it was right or not is besides the point. The fact is that the government willingly supplied those names and addresses and then drummed up the activists to pressure these people.

Oh yeah, having said that, anyone who thinks the “volunteer” bill that was just passed by the House cannot eventually become something more sinister, think again. The Hitler Youth had very benign beginnings, at least it seemed to the kids (though the real purpose was to get them militarily trained). What matters is what it turns into in the end (ask any WWII survivors what they thought of fighting the Hitlerjugend SS Division).

What Paul said is true. An army’s basic training is all about discipline, many learning to fight as one. Once that is achieved, the weapons can come later…
