My friends around Houston have been complaining about the phony conservative Republicans in Texas for a long time. Senators Hutchinson's and Cornyn's liberalism on amnesty is trumped only by Rick Perry's mandate that pre-teen females MUST be vaccinated with GARDASIL to avoid venereal disease.

I think unstable political positions must be dealt with on a candidate by candidate basis but final resolutions must not be to compromise core conservative principles.

You said there were several GOP meet-up groups in the Harris County area. I'm interested in hooking up with one of those groups.

I moved from Corpus Christi to the Tomball area three months ago. I was always frustrated because there was no group to meet over there, but there seems to be a lot more activity here.

Melissa, I can't tell you how happy I am for you that you have found such a clear path for yourself where you really can have a strong voice and leadership role in expressing yourself and motivating others. I have to agree with BigHenry.

Having had dinner with a Dutch friend this evening who is married to an American, they clearly expressed how the Republican party simply must change. America has changed, the world has changed, and the way we are perceived in the world has changed. They feel that as a whole, many republicans come across angry, judgemental, old way thinking, and not open to other nations. They are also hoping that things will change for the better.

Again, I am very happy for you. A heartfelt congratulations for your successes! I wish you lots of strength.

One of the overlooked problems with "my" republican party is the fact that it is filling up with "Professional" politicians. These people have verly little in the way of core values and will stick that finger out into the politicaal breeze in a heartbeat to decide on stances to issues instead of any bedrock beliefs. They market themselves as akin to wahtever constituancy they think will support them, party making little difference. These people were fairly rare a few years back on our side, but they have exploded onto the republican political scene lately (one of the reasons Bush got turned on by his own party so very quickly AND why many of us felt alienated by our party this last election. We MUST keep watch for these pols who's motivations are more self interest than the good of the people.

Melissa,

I read your posts daily via Google's feed Reader (there are many other RSS readers). I recommend that your loyal readers avail themselves of this type of service if they don't already do so.

I suggest to you that you consider a leadership role via your blog and your online contacts to organize whatever group and/or individual activity might be helpful in re-invigorating the Republican party. I am eager to participate.

Best, Henry
