Republican Senators Will Suck The Joy Out Of Your Existence

January 30, 2009 / 7:50 am • By Dr. Melissa Clouthier

Remember when you got in a fight with a friend and then some sanctimonious busy body got in the middle and tried to mediate and you both turned on him and wanted to beat him senseless?

Well, in the Senate, there are a few mushy middle types who believe they know what is best for the two sides and they are going to broker a compromise that’s “good for America”. Translation: They will take craptastic legislation, make it worse, put a bow around the pile of poop and preen before News cameras saying how great they are it is for America.

The Stimulus Bill (aka Porkulous) reeks from stem to stern.

There are lots of places to go to read why this Bill is a giant payoff to Democrat constituencies and worse, a huge power grab by the government. Go read them, I’ve linked some here. Look what President Obama is trying to do says Instapundit:

OBAMA CALLS WALL STREET IRRESPONSIBLE, but look at what he’s doing:

Eight hours of debate in the HR to pass a bill spending $820 billion, or roughly $102 billion per hour of debate.

Only ten per cent of the “stimulus” to be spent on 2009.

Close to half goes to entities that sponsor or employ or both members of the Service Employees International Union, federal, state, and municipal employee unions, or other Democrat-controlled unions.

This bill is sent to Congress after Obama has been in office for seven days. It is 680 pages long. According to my calculations, not one member of Congress read the entire bill before this vote. Obviously, it would have been impossible, given his schedule, for President Obama to have read the entire bill.

For the amount spent we could have given every unemployed person in the United States roughly $75,000.

We could give every person who had lost a job and is now passing through long-term unemployment of six months or longer roughly $300,000.

There has been pork barrel politics since there has been politics. The scale of this pork is beyond what had ever been imagined before — and no one can be sure it will actually do much stimulation.

Wall Street didn’t have Obama’s chutzpah. And it didn’t do nearly the damage to the nation that this bill will do. (Via Dan Riehl).

That is what President Obama is trying to do.

What I want to talk about is the utter stupidity of the Republican Senators trying to make this porky pig wear lipstick (to borrow one of Barack Obama’s fav phrases). When Americans finally have time to understand how they’ve been worked over by this legislation, who will they blame? The Republicans. Why? Because the Republican Party is the opposition party and that means they should oppose horrible legislation whether The Savior wants it or not.

See, taxpayers are Republican constituents. And really, philosophically, Americans are still conservative. If Republicans are complicit in a bill that will socialize medicine, feed the corruption beast and just generally make everything worse and NOT create jobs, its ostensible purpose, people will be angry. All Americans will be angry….not just Republicans.
