Apples Need Anti-Virus Software?
There goes a major selling point.

Most useful quote: And I’ve warned that many Windows users who have switched to the Mac - often to get away from spyware and viruses - are bringing their bad computing habits with them to the new platform.

That is where the majority of problems come from. There is no magic in the virus attack. It is an attack on a software weakness by way of human weakness - STUPIDITY.

I have some free virus protection for everyone:
    - Stop downloading porn from Russia
    - Stop downloading “free” (read “stolen”) music, movies and software
    - Stop opening attachments from people you don’t know

Oh, and this one is a free slice of knowledge that has nothing to do with virus, if the son of the deposed leader of Nigeria sends you an email (no matter what the content), DELETE it!!!

Alternative #2: Switch to Linux, and maintain a separate user account from the root account. Then, if you were to get a virus through user stupidity, all that’s hosed is the user account and not the root account.

The same is probably available on a Mac since it has some Unix style in the Darwin core, but I’m not sure how many Mac apps need root permissions on the system.
