You Know You’ve Arrived When HuffPo Calls You Racist
November 5, 2008 / 10:33 pm • By Dr. Melissa ClouthierOver at Huffington Post,
MELISSA CLOUTHIER: “By which I mean, get down off that cross, because we need to burn it, on someone’s front lawn.”
The South wasn’t as solid Republican as it should have been. Can it be reenergized?
I’ve arrived! I’ve been called a racist by a group who makes their identity their brand identity. Man, only one day into president-elect Obama’s win. I really thought it would take longer.
P.S. I think the dude at Huffington Post was trying to be funny. It goes without saying, but I’ll say it anyway, that I didn’t write that nor do I believe it.
P.P.S. The whole notion of racism is about to be completely demolished, isn’t it? I mean, when the epithet is lobbed over anything and everything, it begins to mean nothing.

Congrats. You’ve been dissed by the dumbest.

But Melissa,
These are the compassionate wonderful people that are the left. They are looking after your best interests and they do it out of love . Ah, yes, I cannot wait until the Obamajugend (singing kiddies) and and the ObamaCommissariat (this is the adult branch) to start with the purge. Be careful or you’ll probably end up in a gulag and politically reeducated…er I mean, you’ll undergo sensitivity training.

Melissa:
I followed the link from Huff Po expecting to find something vitriolic. I realize now, and it took me a couple of minutes, that the article is satire and the quote isn’t yours. Since I’m here, just wanted you to know I think the writer is irresponsible and out of line. In fact, I don’t find anything distasteful here. And I like your motto about burying liberalism with “a shovel and a smile.” I’m one of those liberals who supported Obama. I’m getting weary of the trash that has been tossed about from both sides, and the last thing I want to see Dems do is get into gloating. I was angry in 2000 when Bush defeated Gore. I complained like others that the GOP stole the election, etc., etc., etc. But then I decided that Bush was my president, too, and I would give him a fair hearing. I probably don’t need to tell you I was unhappy with his presidency. But in this country we have free elections and the opportunity for debate. I hope you and others will give Obama a chance. And if you disapprove of policy and actions, let the criticism come. (it will) But we can’t keep fanning the flames. I hear too much talk from people, conservatives and liberals, about how sure they are that an attempt will be made on Obama’s life. I live in Fargo, ND, and if I’m hearing it repeatedly up here, I think that discussion is taking place frequently everywhere. I’m uncomfortable even bringing it up. I’m all for turning down the political temperature a bit. Good luck to you and sorry that the Huff Po took such liberties with your name.

Maybe she edited her post to remove her racial remark.

Jim,
Having my name smeared is nothing. The death threats and personal invective are illuminating, too. Par for the course, I guess.
Barack Obama is my president. Period.
God forbid that an attempt is made on his life. Ugh. I don’t like that people even talk about it or give the idea energy.
The Right got our asses handed to us. It’s time for us to come up with something better. We can do it. And, we will.

Alt freq,
Go ahead and look at the Google archives. You’ll see that my post hasn’t changed. Oy.

I wondered how anyone could say something so racist so I followed the link and as soon as I saw your picture, it was obvious…
You’re pissed off because you’re ugly white trash.

Congrats, Melissa! I considered it a badge of honor when a lefty blogger called me morally bankrupt. Can’t wait for HuffPo to call me racist! Death Camp of Tolerance, here we come!

Please post a link to your google archives so I can tell if you edited your racist remark or not.

Dr. Melissa also throws the racism card, comparing Obama to hitler:

Will jim, above, now say that melissa is “irresponsible and out of line”?
Time will tell if melissa or jim will acknowledge their hypocrisy.

Here’s another link where melissa throws the racism card, in a post called “Handy Manny’s Pervasive Racism.” Here’s what she says:
“The Mexican, black, and oriental characters are all kind-hearted, have something broken and have the sense to get help from the super hero Handy Manny. Not Mr. Lopart. He’s the stupid white guy. Watching it once or twice is one thing. Seeing this racism every single day is galling. And this unspoken but obvious message is burned into the hard drives of America’s children. So parents, pay attention. Indoctrination begins young and could be happening right under your nose.”

melissa seems to be obsessed with political correctness.

Here, in a post called “Is Barack Obama Racist?”, melissa throws the racism card yet again:
“Reaaaaaaly? Barack Obama has a problem with Justice Thomas’ qualifications and intelligence? That’s rich. Obama might be smart, though he has yet to demonstrate that incisive mind we keep hearing about and he for damn sure lacks qualifications as the WSJ editorial easily demonstrates. What the hell is his deal? Women reporters are “sweetie“. And the black Supreme Court justice isn’t much of a legal thinker. Oh and then, there are the gun-clinging mountain nuts that really can’t be blamed for their ignorance. And let’s not forget Obama’s “typical white person” grandma.”

Melissa, I’m sure this will get stuck in “moderation” … however, just because YOU deleted what YOU WROTE: “By which I mean, get down off that cross, because we need to burn it, on someone’s front lawn.” — does NOT mean you didn’t write it because YOU DID.
Your vile quote is NOT racist it is worse than that … your vile quote illustrates the disgusting truth about you & your reichtwinged buddies … YOU DO NOT CARE ABOUT THE VALUE OF LIFE YOU ONLY CARE ABOUT YOUR ARCHAIC SECULAR VIEWS.
Pray for yourself.

Don’t let the SS wannabes here get you down.

Yup, the mobs are coming out for blood. Must be part of that “healing process” that Obama talked about…
Jim, that’s what the left does. I don’t know why you’re so surprised by it. Let’s face it, if Obama lost, then his legions would have responded by going into a frenzied rage and started rioting. That’s immaturity and it’s the way the left is. But you guys got what you wanted. You’ll have to deal with the ultimate consequences.

I was trying to read through some of the liberal comments, but all I kept seeing instead of the normal drivel was “Ein Volk, Ein Reich, Ein Fuhrer” and “Obama Uber Alles”.
It’s deliciously ironic that the same crowd that called Bush “Chimpy Bushitler” just voted for a real, live, unapologetic Marxist.
Hitler was a Marxist, too.
But watch out liberals - read up on the Night of the Long Knives - if Obama tries to become Emporer Arugula I, he’ll take you out first.

Melissa,
I don’t like you. I came from HuffPo to see if you really wrote that trash about cross burning. Seems you didn’t, but maybe you deleted it after you realized it went to far.
I voted for Obama. I love my President, more than I can say. And I must tell you if having wrote this comment, that you will be watched. There are others of the right wing blogesphere that have written some Pretty Darn Scary Things that would put them on the watch list of the Secret Service, too. Please. Be very careful of the hate that you may be spreading. There are innocent lives at stake. Churches are being burned already…
The Right was beaten. Now, I wish that they would PEACEFULLY go and clean up their house without threatening the life of our President or others. (i.e. burning crosses.)
I am hoping you are doing so yourself.

…But I know they won’t.
Sad.

Hi. I am a gay man, extremely socially liberal (pro-choice, anti-NRA, etc.), fiscally ambivalent (tax me whatever, I’ll pay it, because I’m an American and that’s our patriotic duty, though I do like my money and would prefer to keep it), and an Obama supporter/voter. I did check the HuffPo post-election and I did click the link over to your blog to read your post.
Now: It is entirely evident reading the rest of the aforementioned Huffington Post article that each linked bit prior to the quotes was a satirical synopsis of the post linked. And it wouldn’t have taken a Rhodes scholar to realize that: just a couple of minutes to scan the entire article, one more to confirm that those statements were not in a random sampling of the links just in case (they were not), a funny bone, and a good bit of common sense. So to the weirdos above me, I say lovingly: “Bitch, please.”
While I don’t agree with you on some (probably many) issues, I think your perspectives are well-written, tolerant, and sympathetic to every American, and I applaud that. Of course, given that I think that, according to many other conservative bloggers, you’re doing something wrong.
We shall meet again in four years! Chin up; as loath as I am to admit it, the cycle will turn back, as it is wont to do. Thanks for rekindling my faith in the conservative voice.

This is soooo freaking funny. All the “OMG the black helicopters” freak outs from the left regarding Bush and the Patriot Act and then when they get their man in they immediately come out with the “ZOMG shut up or we will sic the Secret Service on you!!!!111!!One”. Also talking about the hate spread by Conservatives when you have leftists threating research scientists with death over medical research and riots if their guy lost the election. Yep, I believe Emperor O will have NO PROBLEMS with healing the national divide… no problems at all…

Mat, I know that is what some on the left do. But it is what some on the right do also. Both sides are guilty and if you check out political blogs objectively it seems the shit-talk posts are about equal in number. (Being a Democrat, I used to think the Right was more guilty but that was just my own bias.) No matter how tempting, I try not to wade into it. These people who think they’re finding a quick release through vitriolic dialogue are only adding to their simmering rage.

I hate to rat-out my fellow “live and let live” folk, but the reason I found your site was because a commenter put a link to it in their comment either on HuffPo or Alternet.org!
Just keeping an eye on the opposition!
