Maybe this time I’ll be right.

i’ve felt this from the start. i saw obama’s primary victory as one of the last person standing against hillary. her negatives were underestimated – and when people finally woke up, it was too late to save her. i think obama was in the race purely to keep his 2004 momentum alive – his real run was to be 2012.
i’m watching the numbers in pennsylvania (where i live), michigan, and wisconsin. if those states move after the debates – like we saw movement after gore showed up with geisha make-up – then obama is toast.
not to overplay it, but bubba, WaPo, NYT, and CNN are all slapping obama around over the past 48 hours.

There is a “magic number” of points by which the democrat (nationwide office holder or seeker) has to be ahead, in order to break even on Election Day. The media has no name for this because they don’t want to talk about it. Obviously, it’s smaller if the democrat is the incumbent than if he is the challenger.
It’s somewhere between, by my reckoning, four to six percentage points.
Obama’s never been there and he won’t be there. I’m in agreement with you and I’m ready to put some money on it. Er…I would…if it was legal to gamble in the Golden State…so of course with things the way they are, I’d never dream of such a thing.

I don’t know Melissa,
I would have said that McCain would win by 5-6 points and about 40 electoral votes after the Republican convention, but I think the fallout from this bailout will cost McCain. All of a sudden, things just don’t seem so sure anymore.
It’s not right, and the Democrats are as much to blame as the Republicans, but I think that a lot of Republican congresspeople will be voted out in November. That means and Obama presidency and a very-left leaning Congress dominated by Democrats. Socialism has finally arrived in the United States (I think I’m going to throw up now…)

This “Wall Street Meltdown” MAY have been timed to provide a boost to BO — and unless there’s another economic “catastrophe” in the immediate future, this issue will roll into the background once again and expose BO as the empty suit that he is.
I am concerned that so many young people I speak with remain enamored with BO (because he’s the “AntiBush”) — but I do ot anticipate their turnout on election day will be any higher than normal.
I’ve been telling my Democrat friends to prepare for McCain to take a minimum of 300 Electoral votes. I’m beginning to think the total may be much higher.

Anyone who thinks McCain is going to win in a landslide needs to become reacquainted with reality. Look at the state-level polling numbers and you’ll see that Obama’s lead in the electoral college is substantial and growing every day. The national poll numbers don’t reflect this lead in quite the same way, most likely because Palin has reinvigorated Republicans. Trouble is, she’s only electrifying the die hards who would probably have voted for McCain anyway and most of whom live in states that are already going to the Republicans. Moreover, her shine seems to wear away each time she engages with the media. With VA going blue in recent weeks and FL, OH, IN, and now NC (all red states in the past two elections) coming into play, the odds are that an Obama landslide is much more likely than a McCain landslide.
