Watch Obamatons Lose Their Minds To The Tune Of Les Miserables–UPDATED
September 13, 2008 / 2:12 am • By Dr. Melissa ClouthierOh. My.
How do you go through a hurricane with a sense of humor? Watch Obasmic videos linked by Andrew Sullivan. Look at this:
The wind is howling and so am I. Hilarious. And not because they cast John McCain and Sarah Palin as the Thenardiers (yes, even us inbred hicks watch musical theater sometimes, you know, between scratching our asses and drinking Budweiser with a straw). No, it’s funny because the whole plot of Les Mis is a revolution that NEVER HAPPENS. The setting is 100 years before 15 years after the French Revolution when a group of students revolt, but ultimately lose their fight against “The Man.” (Orléanists) Let’s hope the Obamatons aren’t successful 100 years from now, either. So, are they admitting that this fight is a losing proposition? Or are they hoping that in “one day more”, God will have Barack Obama magically in store? Or is Barack Obama God?
Over at RedState, Pejman Yousefzadeh deconstructs the leftist implosion led by their taut-reared leader Andrew Sullivan. It looks good, but I’m too tired to read the whole thing. Here’s what I caught:
Didn’t Andrew Sullivan once have a sense of perspective? I could swear that he did. I could swear that once upon a time he had a bemused and jovial air about him–even during the most trying of times. Now, he’s insufferable. It’s always “Karl Rove this” and “Karl Rove that” and of course, there is the constant obsession about Palinian pregnancies in the background, not to mention attempts to top previous efforts at launching calumnies at John McCain. My God, reading the site has become like hearing fingernails screech on a chalkboard. Look, I’ll come out and say it plainly; McCain was never my favorite Republican candidate for President of the United States and if it were up to me, I wouldn’t have picked Palin (she has time to impress me, but there it is). If McCain wins the Presidency, I would prefer it but it’s sort of like saying that I would rather have one leg of mine amputated instead of two. The end result still kinda sucks, from my point of view. But the more Andrew Sullivan screechblogs, the more prepared I am to go put out yard signs and hand out bumper stickers on behalf of the McCain/Palin ticket, if only because a McCain victory might cause Sullivan to completely lose his marbles and run out into the streets screaming and yelling conspiracy theories and various obscenities at onlookers who would then be left wondering whether Hannibal Lecter’s cellblock had a security breach. And I promise you, my Republican credentials notwithstanding, that’s saying something. I’ve never engaged in political advocacy for the sole purpose of driving someone ’round the bend, but this year, I might make an exception.

Um… I haven’t seen Le Miz, but isn’t it set after the French Revolution. The book starts in 1815.

I don’t mean to be utterly anal, but the story of Les Mis takes place during the first half of the 1800s, not 100 years before the French Revolution… This song takes place just before the Revolution of 1832.
But I agree, it is a hilarious video! “One more day till revolution” - the revolution that FAILS! Horribly! Pretty damn near all the revolutionaries die. If I were an Obama supporter, this isn’t a video I would find uplifting.

Jim,
You are correct. Oy vey. Serves me right for blogging at 2:30 AM!
The students fought the Orléanists and lost.

John McCain is Javert, the inspector that chases Jean Valjean through the years and infiltrates the students’ revolution. He doesn’t appear to be singing the Thenardier’s song, just Sarah.
Oh, I’m a big Broadway geek. I’ve got the concert DVD of this one and have seen it at least 5 times - every time it comes through Dallas.

btw, Palin is indeed cast as Madame Thenadier. However, McCain is singing the part of Javert.

Oh, and another thing. In Les Miz, Javert commits suicide after Jean Valjean lets him live after their confrontation in the tunnels - his entire world was turned upside down by the realization that Jean was a good man, not the horrible convict Javert always thought that he was.
And the Thenardiers (in the play) seemed to land on their feet - as they infiltrated Cosette and Marius’ wedding to steal the silver.

Inbred hicks who watch musical theater and use Yiddish. It’s the end of the world!

Melissa, isn’t “…between scratching our asses and drinking Budweiser with a straw…” stretching? I bet you’ve never done both at once.
Lousy liar I am, I admit I once actually gave Andy money to support the Daily Dish. In my defense, that was backalong. Jay Nordlinger has similar experience. Buyer’s Remorse and embarrassment, too.
Hang in, girl. Rachel also appears to have survived; left comment to show it.

Interestingly, Victor Hugo is among the heroes of liberty profiled in Jim Powell’s great book TRIUMPH OF LIBERTY. A book that, if it were to go through a thousand editions and updatings from here to the next millenium, the Obamessiah will never appear in, except perhaps in a chapter devoted to Sarah Palin.
