Just have to say–I agree completely with Jason, Pat and Chris. Voices of reason are something to be cherished.
Here’s what I’d like to add: Heather Mallick expressed an opinion; she didn’t point a gun at someone.
As Pat said, it’s no more and no less than commentators like Ann Coulter [and Bill O'Reilly] do on a regular basis.

I find it amusing how Canadian and American citizens attack each other and start making slurs about the other nation as a whole because a columnist spewed off at the mouth.

Many of the respondents here have done the same thing. Recommending that this reporter be murdered is just as heinous as what she said.

Melissa your entire article while trying to appear objective is riddled with anti-Canadian sentiment in its tone, because this woman happened to be Canadian. Referring to her as a “Canadian tarte” is clearly reveals hostile feelings about Canadians that you have. You also take a shot at French Canadians. God forbid that they may speak a language that you don’t understand.

Keep it in perspective. This was one columnist who wrote a disgusting article and she has been condemned by just about the whole Canadian print media. Do a google search and you will find those. So, no it is not an anti-American Canada, or the general feeling of Canadians, or an opinion held by the “Canadian media” as if they all operate with one brain. Anne Coulter has said some disgusting things about Canada. Beyond the childish high schoolish foul mouthed things that Mallick said about Palin. Coulter once remarked that Canada didn’t have the right to exist which is far more disgusting than childish jokes said by Mallick. Yet, I don’t believe that is the opinion of the American media or the American public.

Yet, incidents like this have been happening for years and it reveals what some people are really thinking deep down.

Well, I don’t know anyone that agrees with the disgusting, vile things Mallick said and why would you Canadians consider it any of your business in the first place?

Does freedom of speech give one the right to viviously attack someone? It is slander and I would love to see a lawsuit filed. Of course it won’t be done, but it’s damn disgusting that the press in Canada is so vile.

I believe that Mallick is just being spiteful because a woman made it without being a feminist and being hard core. But rather, a loving wife and mother, with the brains to govern the largest state in the USA. A woman who has made it in a man’s world, standing up to big oil men in AK. Hey, my hat’s off to Sarah Palin and we are darn proud of her.

No we’re not the Roman Empire, thank God, but we are the most powerful country in the free world. And this bright, lady may just become the Vice President of our great nation.

We rather belong to the ‘real’ best countries in the world such as Norway, Sweden or Finland .

As a Canadian, I am amazed at how many Americans (and Canadians) have allowed themselves to be baited by Mallick’s opinion piece and have offered responses that are as unacceptable as the piece they decry as unacceptable.

I don’t see how this kind of piece is any different from the kind of deliberately outrageous ‘journalism’ that Ann Coulter writes. Its intent is to provoke and gain media comment. It should be dismissed as unworthy of any serious response.

As an aside, I would point out that most Canadians don’t want to be the 51st state, whether Americans feel we ‘deserve’ it or not. We’re just as proud of our country as Americans are of theirs.
