Heather Mallick: Another Reason Canada Does Not Deserve To Be The 51st State
September 10, 2008 / 10:41 am • By Dr. Melissa ClouthierSo some female Canadian journalist Heather Mallick waxes elephant about the plebe Sarah Palin. I read this at Rachel Lucas first. Her response is full of “picque”. You might have to be French Canadian to understand that word.
Rachel also goes after the idjits who feel that a random judge has more sense than the constitution. Jeff Goldstein delves even deeper into the constitution-Obama follower-stupid triangulation, that and the Sarah Palin equals a Muslim terrorist equivalence. Rachel writes about that too. [These are two of the greatest minds on the internets, by the way. I've mentioned this before but you should be reading their work every day.]
Still my favorite screed of the day is by James Lileks who goes after the Canadian tarte who manages to shove every stereotype about the right into one verbose article. This is a long quote, but I promise you, there is so much more goodness in his writing you have to read it all. Ditto Rachel. Ditto Jeff. Why would anyone want to be a liberal? The true literary artists are on the right. Says Mr. Lileks:
It’s possible that Republican men, sexual inadequates that they are, really believe that women will vote for a woman just because she’s a woman.
Consider the joy that would reign if someone wrote that “Democrats, racial guilt-mongers that they are, really believe that African-Americans will vote for an African-American just because he’s an African-American.” Of course Republican men don’t believe that women will vote for her just because she’s a woman. It’s surely a factor, but there’s the possibility that they will vote for her because she is not a woman like Heather Mallick.
You have to love the “Sexual inadequates that they are” line as well; if there’s one thing that’s amused me in the last two weeks, it’s the screechy distaste of Ms. Palin coming from men who embodied the Modern Alda Paradigm of masculinity, which is to say they are nervous around cars, think guns are icky, had their own Snugli, have wives in corporate jobs who make more money than they do, and still get dissed behind their backs because they can’t figure out how to make the bed. The Lost Boys, if you will. Now, some women can’t stand Sarah Palin for their own reasons, personal or ideological; same with men. Some men, however, are made deeply uneasy by her, because she’s the one who ignored the sensitive poet-guys in high school for the jocks, and didn’t seem to grasp the essential high-school truth that it’s cool to be a loser. But that’s rank psychoanalysis, and we won’t stoop to that.
She continues on the women-voting-for-women thing:
They’re unfamiliar with our true natures. Do they think vaginas call out to each other in the jungle night? I mean, I know men have their secret meetings at which they pledge to do manly things, like being irresponsible with their semen and postponing household repairs with glue and used matches. Guys will be guys, obviously.
It’s funny, because it’s true! Bronze that paragraph; if nothing else, it’s the death of PC, and license for guys to say anything. At least she’s honest about the idea of female solidarity – it matters only if the ideological stars have aligned – no, if the ideological cycles have synced, to use terms she’d probably employ. Or has already. It’s not about whether Sarah Palin is a woman, it’s whether she’s the right kind. She’s supposed to restrict snow machines, not ride them or for God’s sake get knocked up by some slopey-brow dullard who rides them. (Competitively! Gawd) Nationalize oil companies, don’t make deals. Have one or two children, not five – Good Gaia, woman, are you trying to make overstuffed congested Alaska top the one-million-citizen mark all by yourself?
It gets better. It occurs to me that elitism isn’t a college degree. It isn’t a zipcode. It isn’t a gender. It isn’t a profession. It’s an attitude.
There are plenty of loaded people who live humbly and wouldn’t presume to condescend and try to tell some dude how to live his life. One of my favorite liberal friends not only refused to shower with soap but also had never paid taxes in his 32 years on the planet. He felt more than entitled to tell other people how to live when it was clear he had trouble taking care of himself.
This impulse to control other people, the lessers, the plebes, the stupid ones, the other, is why average people bristle at being “helped”. It’s not charity. It’s not kindness. The government is one big bludgeon to control everyone’s life. A helping hand? Right. More like a smack across the face.

Please don’t hold this against us Canadians, Melissa. Would I hold Michael Moore against you and your fellow Americans? (excuse the imagery).
By Dr. Melissa Clouthier on Sep 11, 2008 | Reply
Okay, that’s a really good point. And worse, I believe Michael Moore is a product of my beloved state Michigan. And Madonna, too.

That’s all right. Barack Obama is the junior senator from MY state, Illinois. Sorry about that.
But here’s something really scary: Heather Mallick is MARRIED. I would not begin to try to analyze their relationship, but it certainly must be interesting.

I think it is completely inappropiate what this journalist has said about Sarah Palin. What a shame it is all the vicious horrible attacks Mrs. Palin is enduring because people feel intimidated by her. This canadian journalist stated that only “white trash will vote for Sarah Palin”, well it seems to me that people who write and says things such as she are the ones who are white trash. Is all this bashing of each party really going to get us anywhere?!

Heather Mallick does not use any journalistic terms when describing Sarah Palin. Her rant shows that she probably is incapable of writing anything factual. What Ms. Mallick wrote about Sarah Palin is inaccusable. What she said about Republicans shows that anyone who disagrees with her thinking has the right to be trashed. Ms. Mallick should be fired. The Canadian Broadcasting System should denounce her words and make sure that they never print another word that she writes. Ms. Mallick is no longer a journalist. She proved this today.

I read with great curiosity the article (term used loosely) by the journalist (term usd VERY loosely,) Heather Mallick. I looked for her motivationin writing such a malicious, vicious, untrue article about a woman she obviously doesn’t know. Then I saw her picture and read a few biographical paragraphs about her. The answer is clear: JEALOUSY.
Being unattractive and lacking Governor Palins’ talents and attributes and knowing how she pales by comparison, she therefore attacks her.
You have to feel sorry for this person. Forgive her for her blatant stupidity, complete lack of class and need for attention at any cost? ABSOLUTELY not! Lenore Weber

Heather Mallick’s comments are disturbing on many levels. As a Michigan resident, I spent alot of time in Ontario ice rinks watching my kids play hockey.I spent hours bonding with Canadian “rednecks”,”hicks” “blue collar folk”,and other provincial types that this sport attracts. They treated me with respect and dignity.Whatever animosity they may have felt for the U.S. didn’t seem important enough to bring to the rink.I will always remember these parents as being wonderful ambassadors. What is the basis for Ms Mallick’s vitriol? In examining my own psychiatric inventory it seems I resent/hate/discount/envy/ignore, stuff that I fear. What does Ms Mallick fear?

We are appalled at the vivious, slanderous attacks my against Sarah Palin and her family. Heather Mallick’s column is despicable, vile filth aimed at an upright, decent, wholesome, God-fearing American.
Sarah Palin’s stand on issues that Mallick so opposed does NOT give her the right to so viviously attack an American candidate.
Could Sarah Palin’s courageous decision to give birth to a special needs child, fly in the face of Mallick’s pro-choice. Does Mallick realize it’s a life, not a choice? Or is she so blinded she cannot see?
Is it possilbe Mallick despises Sarah Palin because she is a God-fearing Christian? While Mallick attacks Christian fundamentalists? Is she threatened by a strong female leader who is the persona of everything she is against?
Sarah Palin isn’t a feminist, isn’t a liberal, but a conservative, caring, loving Mom, wife and most of all a Governor? Sarah Palin is a reminder to Mallick that her onesided views are not the only standard for women!
Sarah Palin threatens everything Mallick stands for… that you have to be a femenist to get ahead in the world. That you can’t be a wholesome, moral person and get anywhere.
It is a sad day in the world when the Canadian media stoops so low to slander an American candidate simply because she opposes her views.
It is a sad day when a Canadian Columnist David Warren of the Ottawa Citizen defends Mallick saying that it is the opinion of his fellow journalists. It is a slap in the face of all Americans.
Does freedom of speech in Canada give one freedom from common decency, morality and responsible reporting?
I am SURE Heather Mallick does NOT speak for most Canadians. BUT the vile, filthy words of Mallick has left a sour taste in our mouths and I’m not so sure I want to visit Canada anymore.
I’m 61 years old and in all my life, I have never been so outraged by anyone in the media. I never thought I’d see anyone so viviously attack another person because of their opposing views on issues.
My mother always told me, you sling mud, you get it twice back in your own face. I think that will be the case for this irresponsible reporter and the rest of the Canadian media that share her views.

I have a few questions?
Could Sarah Palin’s courageous decision to give birth to a special needs child, fly in the face of Mallick’s pro-choice? Does Mallick realize it’s a life, not a choice? Or is she so blinded she cannot see? Or does not care?

Sarah Palin isn’t a feminist, isn’t a liberal, but a successful conservative, caring, loving WIFE AND MOTHER and most of all a Governor?
Is Sarah Palin a reminder to Mallick that her onesided liberal views are not the only standard for women to not only be successful, BUT RUN FOR THE 2ND HIGHEST OFFICE IN THE MOST POWERFUL COUNTRY IN THE WORLD?
I think it is because Sarah Palin is PROOF a wholesome, moral, fundamentistlist Christian can not only stand up to the BIG OIL MEN as Governor in Alaska but still be a loving wife and mother; speak of important issues facing OUR country with the best of them and run for the 2nd most highest office in OUR country.
It must just rip her apart so much, she spews her hate and vivious attacks at someone who stands for everything she is NOT!
I have just one more question….
Does freedom of speech in Canada give one freedom from common decency, morality and responsible reporting?
I am SURE Heather Mallick does NOT speak for most Canadians. BUT the vile, filthy words of Mallick has left a sour taste in our mouths and it does NOT reflect well on Canada.

Amazing how someone that looks like a New Orleans transvestite and talks like a female ice trucker can even think about being critical of someone like Gov. Palin.
It is easy to sit and electronically spew hatred, at least I hope she is in therapy.
More than sexually adequate Republican male Jeff.

Why doesn’t someone just put a price on her head and end it. Heather is not only a waste of air, but a waste of human flesh. Her parents must be so proud to have raised such an arrogantly ignorant bitter person as her. Why doesn’t someone just put her out of her own missery. I bet her husband would thank the person who did it.

With a face like Mallick’s, it’s no wonder she is extremely jealous of gorgeous Sarah Palin.
This is what jealous, insecure women do when they are upset…they trash others.
Her husband probably thinks Palin’s “hot” so she wrote this pathetic article for her own self gratification….
But in reality, she’s made a fool our of herself by doing so.
Seek therapy, Mallick…..you need it.
By da on Sep 18, 2008 | Reply
This woman is very unhappy. If she was a decent, positive person she would never write these things. It’s as simple as that. You don’t need to be from a big city to know this. Her heart is gone and all she uses is a tired, venomous and faulty brain.

And they will wonder how Palin became the next U.S. Vice-President. I feel sorry for all my moderate democrats friends. Our party has been hijacked.

How amusing and yet how sad! To go through life so angry, bitter, and hateful just amazes me. You sound just like American Democrats, except even they wouldn’t stoop to the level of journalistic trash that you seem to have decended to. They know when to say “enough”.
I have visited Canada many times over the years and have always felt welcomed, accepted, and that I was among friends. Thank goodness I never had the displeasure of running into you….you might have stabbed me in the heart with your pencil. I’m assuming a “writer” of your caliber still uses pencils; maybe Crayons.
In any event, I really feel sorry for your husband having to live with such a mean spirited woman, assuming you haven’t killed him in his sleep, yet.

Heather Mallick and Sundera Tobani, now that’s a real Canadian tragedy. I always thought Canadians were a gracious people, but it is hard to understand why they keep these defective carbon units. These women are pro-abortion; thus, I am sure, euthanasia. Shouldn’t Canadians do something about ending their misery?

I rarely comment when I read stupidy in the media, but these comments Ms. Mallick made really bother me…
To Ms. Mallick I would say, “white trash” vote counts for a lot of votes here in America.
I wonder what she considers “white trash” actually–middle American/Americans? MOST of us… and whose looking like a porn star these days Ms. Mallick–you look like the worn out, washed up yellow bellied journalist you apparently are. Pffff

As a Canadian, I am amazed at how many Americans (and Canadians) have allowed themselves to be baited by Mallick’s opinion piece and have offered responses that are as unacceptable as the piece they decry as unacceptable.
I don’t see how this kind of piece is any different from the kind of deliberately outrageous ‘journalism’ that Ann Coulter writes. Its intent is to provoke and gain media comment. It should be dismissed as unworthy of any serious response.
As an aside, I would point out that most Canadians don’t want to be the 51st state, whether Americans feel we ‘deserve’ it or not. We’re just as proud of our country as Americans are of theirs.

FREEDOM OF THE PRESS, FREEDOM OF SPEECH..AMERICANS INVENTED IT BUT CANADIANS USE IT BETTER. whether you agree or not with Mallick or her use of the English Language, She is just expressing what many people think and we have to TOLERATE IT otherwise there is no such thing as FREEDOM OF THE PRESS and FREEDOM OF SPEECH….oh and by the way thank God we do not deserve to be the 51st American State, Sorry guys but the USA is not the center of the universe nor the Roman Empire. We rather belong to the ‘real’ best countries in the world such as Norway, Sweden or Finland .
By Bonnie on Sep 20, 2008 | Reply
Well, I don’t know anyone that agrees with the disgusting, vile things Mallick said and why would you Canadians consider it any of your business in the first place?
Does freedom of speech give one the right to viviously attack someone? It is slander and I would love to see a lawsuit filed. Of course it won’t be done, but it’s damn disgusting that the press in Canada is so vile.
I believe that Mallick is just being spiteful because a woman made it without being a feminist and being hard core. But rather, a loving wife and mother, with the brains to govern the largest state in the USA. A woman who has made it in a man’s world, standing up to big oil men in AK. Hey, my hat’s off to Sarah Palin and we are darn proud of her.
No we’re not the Roman Empire, thank God, but we are the most powerful country in the free world. And this bright, lady may just become the Vice President of our great nation.

I find it amusing how Canadian and American citizens attack each other and start making slurs about the other nation as a whole because a columnist spewed off at the mouth.
Many of the respondents here have done the same thing. Recommending that this reporter be murdered is just as heinous as what she said.
Melissa your entire article while trying to appear objective is riddled with anti-Canadian sentiment in its tone, because this woman happened to be Canadian. Referring to her as a “Canadian tarte” is clearly reveals hostile feelings about Canadians that you have. You also take a shot at French Canadians. God forbid that they may speak a language that you don’t understand.
Keep it in perspective. This was one columnist who wrote a disgusting article and she has been condemned by just about the whole Canadian print media. Do a google search and you will find those. So, no it is not an anti-American Canada, or the general feeling of Canadians, or an opinion held by the “Canadian media” as if they all operate with one brain. Anne Coulter has said some disgusting things about Canada. Beyond the childish high schoolish foul mouthed things that Mallick said about Palin. Coulter once remarked that Canada didn’t have the right to exist which is far more disgusting than childish jokes said by Mallick. Yet, I don’t believe that is the opinion of the American media or the American public.
Yet, incidents like this have been happening for years and it reveals what some people are really thinking deep down.

Assuming that Canadians want to become the 51st state is a very American thing to do. Most of us don’t, you know.

Just have to say–I agree completely with Jason, Pat and Chris. Voices of reason are something to be cherished.
Here’s what I’d like to add: Heather Mallick expressed an opinion; she didn’t point a gun at someone.
As Pat said, it’s no more and no less than commentators like Ann Coulter [and Bill O'Reilly] do on a regular basis.
